Hosting at Rootstock

This page is for facilitators and guides who have been invited to host their work at Rootstock. It is offered as an orientation into Rootstock, the responsibilities that come with holding space here, and the agreements and information needed to prepare your gathering with clarity and care.

A Living Temple

Rootstock is not a retreat center. It is not simply a venue for gathering.
Rootstock is the home of Beana Bern and a living, breathing temple.

Born from Beana’s desire to create a place where she could feel and be felt, hear and be heard, see and be seen, and evolve into the most authentic and luminous expression of herself, Rootstock emerged as an epic and mythic act of devotion. There is a reason you have found your way here, and a reason you feel called to bring others into this place.

Located on ten deeply magical acres in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, this land has been courted through deep listening. From that listening, temples were born—spaces designed to bring us back into contact with all that is holy. There is the Belly, a gathering space on the Earth with a window to God and the stars above. The elemental sanctuary of the bathhouse, where mountain water, fire, and steam cleanse and soften. Nests and nooks for rest and communion. The Dragon, the Grandmothers and Grandfathers, the Cosmic Egg, and gardens filled with food and medicine.

What makes Rootstock singular is the relationality cultivated with the ancestors and spirits of the land through tending and care. Chopping wood. Carrying water. Washing dishes. Shoveling snow. Blessing the fire. Thanking the trees. The mundane magic of conscious house-holding transforms a rustic homestead into a living vortex, a portal of imagination and possibility, rooted in care and in service to beauty.

The Privilege of Hosting

It is a privilege to animate these temples. On rare occasions, when the calendar opens and an aligned invitation is extended, Rootstock welcomes trusted facilitators to bring their work into this place.

Hosting at Rootstock is not a revenue stream. It is an offering—to the land, to community, and to Creation itself. Those invited to host here understand that holding space in this place comes with responsibility and reverence.

As an invited host, you are being entrusted with a living temple and are asked to commit to:

  • Honoring the land and its ancestors before beginning any work with people

  • Respecting the Temple Tenders and upholding all agreements outlined in your contract

  • Practicing radical self-responsibility in holding and staffing the work so it is grounded, safe, and well-supported

  • Leaving Rootstock, its residents, and its spaces as good or better than you found them, embodying generosity and respect

Hosting here assumes a high degree of facilitator preparedness, self-sufficiency, and maturity in stewarding land-based, rustic infrastructure.

About the Space

  • Maximum capacity is 25 people total, including facilitators and staff

  • Gatherings here are intentionally small and intimate, supporting depth and potency

  • Private, semi-private, dormitory, and camping accommodations are available upon request

  • Rootstock is a rustic, land-based environment and requires active participation in tending space, heat, and flow

Pricing & Hosting Structure

Rootstock works with invited facilitators in two distinct ways, depending on the nature of the gathering and the level of collaboration involved.

Independent Retreat Hosting (Flat Fee / Rental Model)

For longer-form gatherings or retreats hosted independently by a facilitator, Rootstock offers a flat rental model. This applies when:

  • The facilitator is hosting and promoting their own retreat or program

  • The event is not listed on Rootstock’s website

  • Rootstock is not responsible for marketing, registration, or ticket sales

  • The facilitator is fully responsible for holding, staffing, and supporting the work

  • Bathhouse access may be added to a full-day retreat for a flat fee of $500, which includes a 2-hour session and a dedicated bath master

Full Day Rental (up to 8 hours)$2,000

This fee includes access to designated gathering spaces and amenities during the agreed-upon rental window, as outlined in the rental agreement. Rootstock provides an arrival orientation and then steps back, allowing the facilitator to fully host their gathering.

This model is designed for facilitators prepared to operate with full self-responsibility while stewarding the space with care and reverence.

Collaborative Events (Profit Share Model)

For select offerings, Rootstock may enter into a collaborative hosting relationship. This model is typically used when:

  • Beana is co-facilitating or actively holding the work

  • The gathering is shorter in duration (generally under four hours)

  • The event is listed on Rootstock’s website and shared with the Rootstock community

  • Rootstock is supporting promotion, registration, and administration

  • Bathhouse access, when included, is offered at $45 per person, with all bathhouse exchange retained by Beana

In these cases, net profits from the event (after agreed-upon expenses) are shared on a 70/30 split, with 70% allocated to the facilitator(s) and 30% to Rootstock. This model reflects shared creative, energetic, and logistical investment.

Collaborative events are offered by invitation and mutual alignment.
